I found your blog and I hope you have some suggestions for me. My son recently changed soccer teams. My husband thought this would offer him a challenge. However, a suprising thing has happened. The moms seemed nice enough at first, but one mom now seems to have the wrong idea about me and I don’t know where it came from. While at practice I was chatting and an old teammate of my son’s and his mother came that by. We chatted I mentioned how we missed seeing him. After that the woman turned to me and asked if I was high? I was shocked. I said something quippy like, well my sugar my be low, but no Iam not high. This has bothered me since. At the last game she made referance to someone needing an air traffic controller (ie-flying high). I am assuming she meant me. How do I deal with this person. She is really way off base. However I don’t want to hurt my son’s chances on this new team. Can you offer any advice. I am really beating myself up over this, Thanks.
Why would she have said that? Seems mean…are the moms cliquey? I’m sorry she’s making you feel like that. I’m guessing she’s saying that other moms too…I swear women are mean to each other for no good reason. Perhaps, really, something is horrible in her life and she’s dealing with it this way? I say pull her aside and talk to her about the comment and that you don’t know where it came from but perhaps she can enlighten you without an audience present. I tend to be quiet on the sidelines until I get a feel for the other parents, and sometimes I come off looking/seeming like a snob though I am not one. I’ve had people say that…so I make an extra effort to smile and chat the moms straight away so they know I’m trying to be friendly. If your son works hard, I don’t see how it would his chances for you to have a chat with that mom about her comments. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this … good luck!!!
